Cheryl Lawson has been on the high seas fishing since she was 15. She has trolled, gillnetted, longlined, packed sea urchins, seined and done just about everything a BC fisher has to do.
For the last decade or so, she has been on the seine vessel Pacific Discovery (pictured) skippered by Dennis Dobrilla, a fourth generation fisherman who started working on the ship in 1988 as a deckhand.
In an inherently risky industry, the duo has seen their fair share of misfortunes on the high seas.
Driven by a strong desire to help fishers get home safe, Dobrilla and Lawson are part of Fish Safe, a unique safety organization that has been serving the needs of workers in the BC commercial fishing industry.
