Calvin Helin to deliver keynote address at BC Seafood Expo 2018

Calvin Helin, a First Nations entrepreneur, lawyer, and best-selling author will be the keynote speaker at this year’s edition of the BC Seafood Expo, one of the largest seafood industry trade events in the Pacific Northwest.

The event, on June 11 & 12, 2018 held in the Comox Valley on Vancouver Island will feature over 50 trade show exhibitors, leading speakers in their fields and provides a venue to network with industry leaders, international buyers, distributors, and educators for every type of fish, seafood, and seafood related products and services.

Helin, a member of the Tsimshian Nation, comes from the community of Lax Kw’alaams on the Northwest coast of British Columbia, Canada.

The son of a hereditary chief, Helin is the best-selling author of works such as Dances with Dependency: Out of Poverty through Self-Reliance, and Dances with Development: Making Good Money from Natural Resources.

  Helin, is a leading authority on economic independence for First Nations.

Over 40 First Nation and Indigenous communities are now directly or indirectly involved in farming seafood in Canada.

The Seafood Expo is held in conjunction with the annual   BC Shellfish and Seafood Festival.

This year, is the 12th annual edition of the festival and it will feature an array of events from June 8 to June 17, 2018 in the Comox Valley.

Organizers have also planned a Signature Weekend on June 15 to June 17 at the Filberg Heritage Lodge & Park, Comox, BC.

The Signature Weekend will feature the BC Shellfish Growers Assn. Gala Dinner (June 15), and several other ticketed dinners & receptions, plus the Signature Weekend Day Pass events (June 16 & 17) showcasing Chef Demonstrations, new and enhanced competitions, incredible seafood tasting stations, live entertainment and interactive sea-life touch tanks.
