Top nutritional expert brings her message to BC Seafood Expo

BC Seafood Expo provides a venue to network with industry leaders, international buyers, distributors, and educators in the seafood industry

Linda Cornish (pictured), one of North America’s top advocate on the nutritional benefits of eating seafood will be bringing her message to British Columbia this summer.

Cornish, president of the Seafood Nutrition Partnership, has been added as a keynote speaker at this year’s edition of the BC Seafood Expo, one of the largest seafood industry trade events in the Pacific Northwest.

The other keynote speaker at the event is Calvin Helin, a First Nations entrepreneur, lawyer, and best-selling author.

The BC Seafood Expo, on June 11 & 12, 2018 held in the Comox Valley on Vancouver Island will feature over 50 trade show exhibitors, leading speakers in their fields and provides a venue to network with industry leaders, international buyers, distributors, and educators for every type of fish, seafood, and seafood related products and services.

The Seafood Expo is held in conjunction with the annual   BC Shellfish and Seafood Festival.

This year, is the 12th annual edition of the festival and it will feature an array of events from June 8 to June 17, 2018 in the Comox Valley.

The Seafood Nutrition Partnership is an organization focused on inspiring a healthier America through partnerships that raise awareness about the essential nutritional benefits of eating seafood.

Cornish was instrumental in the formation of the organization and led the launch of a three-year public health campaign in October 2015 during National Seafood Month to help Americans find a path to wellness through healthy eating and seafood nutrition.

Other speakers and moderators at the Expo this year include Dr. Timothy Green, Canada Research Chair in Shellfish Health and Genomics and Chris Langdon, Professor of Fisheries, Oregon State University (OSU).

Dr. Green’s research, aims to help future-proof the shellfish industry in Canada by developing a new method to breed shellfish that are resilient to climate change and disease. He has worked on aquaculture projects in several countries including Australia, Scotland, France and United States. His research contributes to the development of sustainable shellfish farming in Canada and the world.

Professor Langdon has carried out research on the nutrition and genetics of marine mollusks since 1975. He also pioneered a program the Hatfield Marine Science Center to improve yields of Pacific oysters.
