‘A unique opportunity to learn about BC seafood’

The BC Seafood Expo and Festival provides B.C. companies the opportunity to promote their products to an international audience and generate export leads – George Chow, Minister of State for Trade.

British Columbia’s reputation as a world renowned seafood source is attracting buyers from all over the world to this year’s edition of the B.C. Seafood Expo, said George Chow. Minister of State for Trade.

“B.C. Trade and Investment representatives from the United States, Japan, South Korea, China, Southeast Asia and Europe are leading delegations of global buyers to this event in a program to showcase B.C. seafood,” Chow told SeaWestNews.

The BC Seafood expo and festival provides B.C. companies the opportunity to promote their products to an international audience and generate export leads, said Chow (pictured).

“It also allows global buyers a unique opportunity to learn about our province’s seafood environment, the industry’s high quality standards and the opportunities to connect with many B.C. suppliers.”

The B.C. Seafood Expo 2019, which will be held in the Comox Valley on Vancouver Island on June 12 and 13. is one of the largest seafood industry trade shows in the Pacific Northwest and part of the 2019 BC Seafood Festival which runs from June 7 to 16.

“The Expo and Trade Show components this year has attracted a record number of exhibitors, delegates, buyers and suppliers,” said John Watson, executive director of the Comox Valley Economic Development, the organization that collaborates with a wide range of seafood organizations and institutions to develop the Expo annually.

The expo features dozens of trade show exhibitors, leading speakers in their fields, and provides a venue to network with industry leaders, international buyers, distributors, and educators for every type of fish, seafood, and seafood related products and services.

The program is also packed with educational sessions covering seafood business and leadership, aquaculture, food safety, policy, sustainability, traceability and transparency.

Watson said there are 32 participants from Asia who will join 38 delegates representing 28 companies from the region.

The European Delegation will comprise 16 representatives from 14 companies and associations.

“The work being done by BC trade and investment representatives all over the world to promote BC seafood is simply amazing…our close collaboration is bearing fruit for all aspects of B.C. seafood and the fisheries sector,” said Watson.
