Here in British Columbia our aquaculture industry has grown in leaps and bounds over the last 60 years. What affects one affects all in this global village we live in today. Without aquaculture we would have a serious problem in feeding our populations. With countries like Canada leading the way, aquaculture provides a healthy seafood for domestic markets, as well as growing exports to countries that are seeing a rise in household income.

In the year 2016, BC’s salmon farming alone supplied 92,800 Metric Tonnes of farmed salmon which resulted in over $1.5-billion towards the B.C. economy.

The main species of shellfish farmed commercially in BC are clams, geoducks, mussels, oysters and scallops.
