The Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, one of America’s most successful Native Tribes, is heading to the 2019 B.C. Seafood Expo in search of food partnerships with local First Nations enterprises.

With a dazzling array of businesses in retail, gaming, food and beverage, ranch, hunting, farming, pecans, print, ammunition, health and manufacturing, The Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma wants “better buying power” for its food and beverage divisions.

“Choctaw Nation would like to partner with additional tribes for better buying power for our food and beverage departments in regard to seafood,” its representative told the organizers of the B.C. Seafood Expo and Festival.

They are particularly interested in sourcing lobster, salmon, crab and any other seafood for fine dining.

The BC Seafood Expo, which will be held in the Comox Valley on Vancouver Island on June 12 and 13, is one of the largest seafood industry trade shows in the Pacific Northwest. The Expo is wrapped around the 2019 BC Seafood Festival which will be held from June 7 to 16.

The Choctaw Nation headquartered in Durant, Oklahoma will be part of the International Buyers delegation, joining representatives from Asia, Europe and North America, attending this year’s B.C. Seafood Expo to source out the bounty of BC’s waters.

“This is the largest international buyer’s delegation in the history of the BC Seafood Expo,” said John Watson, executive director of the Comox Valley Economic Development, the organization that collaborates with a wide range of seafood organizations and institutions to develop the Expo annually.

The Choctaw Nation’s portfolio includes 20 gaming sites, two resorts plus a third under construction, six hotels, a KOA RV park, six restaurant franchises including two Chili’s, a multi-million-dollar printing company, 14 travel plazas plus two under construction, 12 ranches and farms encompassing 65,000 acres where they manage 2,100 cattle, and harvest 130,000 pounds of pecans. It has over 10,000 employees. (Image shows the Chocktaw Casino and Resort in Durant)
