Over 85 events and tours are being featured at the 2019 BC Seafood Expo and Festival in Comox Valley

It’s time to roll up your sleeves, grab your sunscreen and get immersed in everything ocean at the 2019 BC Seafood Festival, which opens today in the Comox Valley on Vancouver Island.

From “Wine Time” to craft brewery tours and 4-hour whale watching excursions to a tour of Fanny Bay Oysters – tickets are now available.

From June 7th through June 16th, the 2019 BC Seafood Festival offers up endless fun events for everyone including a variety of land and sea tours of the beautiful surrounding areas of the Comox Valley, said the organisers.

The BC Seafood Expo and Festival annually boasts an incredible array of seafood chefs and mixologists that light up the stage, participating in exciting dinner events, demonstrations and fast-paced competitions, said the organisers.

The B.C. Seafood Expo 2019, which will be held in the Comox Valley on Vancouver Island on June 12 and 13. is one of the largest seafood industry trade shows in the Pacific Northwest and part of the 2019 BC Seafood Festival.

“The event is now the largest seafood festival in western Canada and the Expo and Trade Show components this year has attracted a record number of exhibitors, delegates, buyers and suppliers,” said John Watson, executive director of the Comox Valley Economic Development, the organization that collaborates with a wide range of seafood organizations and institutions to develop the Expo annually.

The event opens up this weekend with Dock Days celebrating the fun and adventure of the Comox Harbour.

Guests can enjoy sights and sounds of Outrigger Canoe Races, Safety at Sea Seminars, Sailboat Stadium Racing, Big Animal Encounter Whale Watching Tours, Comox Valley Cycle Tours and more.

 A highlight of the Dock Days weekend is the not-to-be-missed Sailfest.

During the week days, the BC Seafood festival events and tours continue both on land and sea including: whale watching trips or a Big Animal Encounter Day Sail, Holmalco Wildlife and Cultural Tours, and the Sip and Savour Tour presented by Ambassador Tours. 

You can also enjoy a cycling adventure or tour the local producers of Fanny Bay Oysters and Manatee Holdings. More dining, slurping and sipping options are available at featured events including a 4-Course Winery Dinner with 40 Knots Winery or dining amid the winery vines during the Terroir Meets Merroir. The Signature Weekend kicks off on Friday, June 14th and continues 11:00 – 5:00pm Saturday and Sunday. The Signature Weekend is perfect for foodies who love BC seafood & spirits, music lovers, and families who want to learn about the oceans and seafood.
Visitors also have the opportunity to learn to cook BC seafood during chef demos throughout the weekend featuring top regional chefs, or can take in action-packed competitions including the Fanny Bay Oyster Shucking competition, the Best Caesar in Town competition, Junior Chef Challenge, and the BC Seafood Festival Chef Challenge sponsored by FortisBC and Garland Canada.

If you’ve never shucked oysters before you now have the opportunity to learn from Guinness Book of World Record holder Shucker Paddy during a hands-on cooking class you won’t find anywhere across the 7 seas except during the BC Seafood Festival!
